Wellness Policy
• Be sure to consult your physician for all concerns about your child’s health and appropriate precautions concerning all illnesses for the safety of your child and all other children.
• Students must have attended school without illness in order to participate in parties, field trips,
assemblies, performances, sports, or any extra-curricular activities sponsored by the school .
• Students diagnosed with a bacterial infection must have been on antibiotic therapy for 24 hours before returning to school.
• If a student becomes ill during the school day, parents will be notified. Pick-up arrangements must be made immediately. For this reason, it is imperative that emergency contacts be kept current and up-to-date. Ill children will be kept in the school clinic until picked up with the expectation that the child will be picked up within one hour of contact with parent or authorized person.
• A fever is considered 100.4. A child with a temperature of 100.4 or greater in the past 24 hours should not be sent to school the next day and will be sent home if they develop a fever while at school. Students must be free from fever for 24 hours without fever reducing medicine before returning to school.
• To ensure that all students stay healthy while they are at school, students should be free of all
the following symptoms for 24 hours before returning to school:
1. Fever (un-medicated)
2. Vomiting or abdominal pain
3. Diarrhea (if more than 2 episodes in one day or in presence of other symptoms)
3. Red eyes or discharge from eyes
4. Headache that does not improve with pain relievers
5. Sore Throat that interferes with their ability to drink or eat
6. Excessive runny nose or coughing (defined as interfering with daily activities)
7. Unexplained rashes
8. Uncovered oozing or weeping wounds
• When a case of an infectious, contagious illness is confirmed to the school, parents of students
in the affected class will be notified. Examples include but are not limited to:
influenza, strep throat, conjunctivitis, varicella (chicken pox), etc.
• Please report to the school nurse any of the following:
-All communicable diseases
-Any serious illness or health problem concerning the student
-Any event that may cause the student physical or emotional stress

- If a child reports to the clinic but does not meet the criteria for immediate dismissal as listed above, an email will be sent to parents, alerting them to their child's status. The school nurse will then follow-up on the student within 60-90 minutes: if the child is the same or worse, the parent will be notified by telephone at that time.
- For minor injuries or illnesses, parents will be notified via email unless a parent wishes to always be notified via phone call. Please inform the school nurse if a phone call is preferred at all times for every clinic visit.
